Wash the rice and soak it in water for 20 minutes. Meanwhile, chop up the green beans and onions.
Heat oil in a pan, add in the whole spices and bay leaf, saute for 30 seconds. Add in the onions and green beans, saute till the onions turn translucent.
Pour in the chicken stock and season with salt and pepper. Bring to boil and add in the washed rice and give it a good stir. Close the lid and let it cook for 18-20 minutes over low heat. Serve hot along with your favourite side dish or have it on its own.
