Ingredients
  • 1kg Chicken
  • 2 Onions (finely chopped)
  • 1 Tomato (chopped)
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tsp Sugar
  • 1/4 cup Water
  • 4 tbsp Vegetable oil
  • For grinding
  • 7 Garlic pods
  • 2 inch Ginger
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 6-7 Kashmiri red chillies
  • 4 Dry red chillies
  • 1/2 tbsp Black peppercorns
  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 3/4 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1/4 tsp Fenugreek seeds
  • 5 Cloves
  • 1 inch Cinnamon
  • 5 tbsp Vinegar
Directions
  • Step 1 Wash and clean the chicken pieces and keep it aside.
  • Step 2 Finely chop the onion, garlic and ginger.
  • Step 3 Dry roast the ingredients mentioned for grinding except garlic, ginger, turmeric and vinegar, till slightly browned and fragrant.
  • Step 4 Now, grind ginger, garlic, turmeric and the roasted spices to a fine paste. Add little water if the mixture is too dry.
  • Step 5 Marinate the chicken with the ground paste.
  • Step 6 Heat oil in a pan, add onions, saute till the onions turn translucent.
  • Step 7 Add the chopped tomatoes and saute for 2-3 minutes.
  • Step 8 Add in the marinated chicken, turmeric powder, salt to taste and sugar. Mix well and pour in water. Cover and cook on medium heat till the chicken is done. Serve with chapatti or rice.
